Worcester Gymnasium’s top matric student boasts an average of 91,14% and is on his way to the University of Cape Town to study medicine.

Henno Conradie attributes his success to all his school teachers for being so friendly and patient. “For giving us many extra lessons and putting in their best efforts to help us understand the work,” he points out.

Unlike other teenagers, Conradie says he did not have a role-model, but used Biology as a driving force. “Biology has always been my passion, and I would like to become a geneticist one day. This dream of mine is what inspired me to work hard to improve my chances of being accepted at university.”

On how lockdown affected his studies, Conradie said: “When I was in Grade 11 the lockdown made it much harder to study because I had to rely on myself and my self-discipline to attend all of my online classes and finish all my homework, instead of the school telling me to do so. I managed to exercise control and take responsibility for my work and its quality. In matric we had to go to school every day, so the lockdown no longer affected my study in any way.”
