A group of Lifestyle Christian Academy (LCA) learners undertook an enriching and educational trip to South Korea recently.

The group was accompanied by their principal, Connie Kim, and vice-principal, Amanda Ungerer.

During a feedback session on Wednesday 7 November, the learners couldn’t contain their excitement.

Tanisha Jacobs said the highlight for her was to come into contact with a different currency, the South Korean won, as well as the culture and advanced technology.

Halo Witbooi was surprised by how advanced technology is there. “The toilets flush automatically,” she said, smiling.

BonúThando Mdoba was completely blown away by the technology. “At the airport I saw a robot that said hello seven times.”

Some of the learners said the trip helped them overcome their fears. BonúThando shared his before-and-after feelings about the trip. “When I left I was scared, especially about flying in an aeroplane,” he said, “but when I came back I was so proud of myself because I had overcome that fear.”

Tanisha said she is thankful for a new friendship she made. “I was sad to leave because I had made a new friend,” she said. “We merged two colours of clay to symbolise our new friendship.”

Wildri du Toit found the foods interesting. “The food there is way different,” she said. “The kimchi was delicious, but spicy. They also don’t have salt in their food.”

Connie says learners benefit when exposed to different cultures and diversity from a young age.

The trip is also in line with LCA’s aim to raise, educate and equip their learners to become global Christian leaders. The name of the outreach project is the Daniel Project.

Daniel of the Bible was captured as a slave, but he stayed determined and became the governor of a foreign country. “They can go to other countries and succeed or they can help to enrich their own country,” Connie concluded.

The learners visited churches, museums, theme parks, swimming pools, traditional Korean villages and an aquarium. They agreed as a group that they look forward to travelling again, exploring what God has made, and sharing the Gospel.
