Schools in and around Worcester delivered stellar performances at the recent South African School Choral Eisteddfod held in Worcester.
“What a pleasure it is for me to attend this event,” said the Executive Mayor of the Cape Winelands District (CWDM), Dr Helene von Schlicht, at the opening. The event was held at Worcester Town Hall on Wednesday and Thursday last week.
She congratulated the learners of the eight school choirs from across the district who took part in the event.
“You are a pocket of excellence in this seemingly broken world, your dedication and hard work make you an example to others and, in turn, make you leaders,” the mayor said. “Be disciplined, be leaders to others, our country needs leaders.”
The CWDM supported the event by sponsoring transport for the choirs from outside Worcester and the making of the trophies.
Desmond Tutu Secondary School, Ihlumelo Secondary School, Kayamandi High School, Makupula Secondary School, Vusisizwe Secondary School and Zwelethemba High School left the audience in awe with their performances.
The day concluded with the national anthem.
