The Cape Winelands District Municipality (CWDM), in partnership with the provincial education department, hosted its fourth annual top achievers ceremony in Paarl on 14 January.
This prestigious occasion set out to honour the 2015 Grade 12s that excelled academically at public schools in the municipal district.
Dignitaries, teachers, parents and the Breede Valley Executive Mayor, Cllr Antoinette Steyn, were among those who were present to reward the 64 learners with certificates, along with Alderman Neels de Bruyn (CWDM Executive Mayor) and Debbie Schäfer (MEC of Education).
The learners also received gift vouchers from a prominent regional clothing chain to assist them on the road ahead.
In a statement, the CWDM says it invests in this event annually in order to encourage learners to work hard, irrespective of their circumstances. “The Cape Winelands District Municipality is proud to be part of the solid foundation that our provincial education department is creating in the district and will continue to support initiatives in this regard,” De Bruyn said at the ceremony.
“The 2015 matric results in the district confirm our belief that by creating an enabling environment, learners can reach their dreams through hard work and dedication.
“We are proud of the achievements of each and every matric student in the Cape Winelands District Municipality.”
