Worcester United II travelled to Paarl on Saturday to take on Paarl II in another 50 overs clash.

United II won the toss and sent in Paarl to bat first. Paarl II did not start off well and were in trouble very early with the score on 27/2 after only 10 overs.

Dean Martin however came to the rescue with a fluent 51 runs. Paarl II lost wickets at regular intervals and were all bowled out for 107 runs off 39.3 overs.

Captain Warren Nimrod performed admirably with the ball with a match return of 5/15 of 6,5 overs and at one stage stood on a hat trick. This left United II with the task to score 108 runs for a win. United II started off in similar fashion as their counterparts and were soon in a spot of bother at 39/3 after 13 overs. Nimrod put on some fight and resistance before he perished for 28 runs.

United II were all bundled out for a disappointing 87 runs which meant Paarl won the match by 20 runs.

In the other match of the day Worcester United I played at home against Paarl I.

United I won the toss and elected to bat first but found runs scarce to come by. Byron Buys was the first man to go for 4 runs. Captain Adrian du Toit struggled to get the scoreboard ticking and eventually lost his wicket for 22 runs.

A mini collapse followed and soon United were 73/5. Charlie Fransman played a good sensible innings with a valuable 26 runs. The innings of the day for United I however, was that of Mario Marinus who brilliantly crafted a very impressive and unbeaten half century. Marinus was well supported by Christo Lukas with a cheeky 21 runs. Paarl I restricted United I to 193 runs off their 50 overs. Paarl I, in the form of Darryl Hendricks, started off like a house on fire with Paarl I scoring freely and at will at almost 6 runs to the over in the first 10 overs. Hendricks looked untroubled but was dropped with his score on 60 by Marshan Jephta off his own bowling.

Apart from this blemish, Hendricks batted impressively and looked the part. He eventually reached his well deserved century and carried his bat with an unbeaten score of 121 runs of only 119 balls. United I bowlers never threatened the Paarl I batsmen and Paarl I easily beat United with 7 wickets with 13 overs to spare.

This weekend will see United II play at home against Wellington II whilst United I will be travelling to Wellington to take on Wellington I. On Sunday United I will play host to Piketberg I. All these games will be 50 over games.
